CHARACTERISTICS AND TYPES OF BLINDS

As the definition says, a blind is a structure made up of sheets interlocked with each other that is placed in the opening of windows, balconies or exterior doors allowing them to be raised, lowered or rolled up to regulate the passage of light. But today there are other types of blinds with different characteristics.

 

Venetian blinds

 

Venetian blinds start from slats placed horizontally so that with a rotation system, they adjust to regulate the passage of light from outside and allow a slight passage of air to ventilate the spaces. We can find this type of blinds made of wood, aluminum, plastic. There is a fabric variant with a different system for opening and regulating light, since it consists of vertical cords located at the ends that rise or fall depending on whether the fabric moves.

 

Vertical blinds

 

Vertical blinds use the same system as Venetian blinds but the slats are placed vertically. They are made of PVC or aluminium. It consists of a simple installation, ease of use and durability. Another type of vertical blinds are the adjustable ones, which allow an opening of 12 degrees for air circulation and to be able to regulate the passage of sunlight.

There are also blinds made from dust and stain resistant fabric, both horizontally oriented like Roman blinds, or vertical like Japanese blinds. The Roman blinds system is based on rods that slide with the movement of the lateral cord. Instead, for Japanese blinds, part of a rail that moves the canvas from right to left and allows to regulate solar lighting.

In Mallorca, the typical wooden shutters are used that allow you to decorate as well as regulate and isolate yourself from light and sound. They are cheap but instead, they need maintenance of the wood and dry cleaning.

Roller Blinds

 

Finally, roller blinds can be made of fabric, wood or plastic.

Those made of fabric are usually called roller blinds, they can be motorized or with manual regulation from a cord on the side. Two units are usually placed, one inside in which the type of fabric is similar to a curtain and allows the light to be sifted, and another outside from zippers on the sides that provide greater resistance to the wind as well as the opaque and waterproof fabric completely isolates you from outside light and blocks the heat given off by the sun’s rays.

Plastic blinds

Plastic blinds are the ones where you need to put a box on top of the window and they can be motorized or manual from a cord on the side. These protect you from the heat and block the sun’s rays.

On the other hand, the blinds made of wood protect the same as the previous ones, but we only find them manual, commonly called Alicante blinds.
